So, I've been a white water guide and instructor all over the world for over twenty years in paddle / oar / motor rafts & kayaks / canoes.

Now I wanted to look for a fun summer project and I've decided to start building my own Grand Canyon style dory to use on some of the bigger rivers in the Pacific Northwest, in particular in my home province British Columbia.

I managed to find some really excellent plans at High Desert Dories online that come with a really great instruction booklet and fantastic support from Andy Hutchinson. I thoroughly recommend him / them. I could have made up my own plans from the book but decided for the cost it would be way easier to buy some plans, and i'm stoked that I did.

I also figured that it would be fun to post my progress on an open Facebook page for the interest of friends and anyone here etc:

Any advice or ideas is most certainly welcome.

Slow and steady progress, learning as I go which was all part of the fun & motivation. Hull now painted in its correct colour and turned over ready to continue work on bulkheads, deck & hatches.
