Wooden Boat People

Hi

Hello Everyone. Just joined a few minutes ago and wanted to ease myself in by saying hi.

Have been enjoying life as an observer/reader of Wooden Boat People and am looking forward to hopefully being a contributing part of the community.

I currently live in SW Idaho, having moved here from Alabama not quite a year ago. Spent most of my years in East Tennessee. I've built a few boats including a Tatman in 1994 and an all glass boat that I made the plugs and molds for in 1996. I sold my wooden one to my college roommate a long time ago and have since lost track of it. My glass boat was a great boat but it got stolen two years ago. (curses)

I'm currently planning my next move: build another glass boat, build a really nice stitch and glue, or refinish an old Keith Steele, Tatman, Don Hill, or whatever I can find. I'm leaning towards the latter at the moment.

and I guess I should add that of all the boat options listed above, the traditional framed McKenzie is my first love. How much do I love that boat? Well, 20 years ago I named my firstborn child McKenzie Lane (after the boat/river and the county).

Carl, welcome to WBP. We hope you can make it over next year. If you get a Keith nSteele to resore, let me know. His son, Steve, is a wooden boat craftsman who has all of Keith's old records. You can find out who originally bought the boat, and the date of delivery. Steve also can provide parts.

Thank you, David. I hope so too. It is definitely on my bucket list of things to do now that I live out west.

That is great to know about the database that Steve Steele has. It must be fun for him to have a rough idea of how many are around and where they are.
