Seat Dimensions: Huge Favor to Ask

Hey Guys,

I am going to go buy lumber to rebuild my boat interior parts this weekend. Unfortunately my seats and deck brace and such are in my friends garage and he is in Rwanda on a mission trip. Can anyone measure their seats for me (length, width, and width of boards) as well as the deck brace (knee lock board) so I can calculate how much lumber to get? As a reminder, my boat is an old Keith Steele but I think any 16x48 will get me close enough.

I'm not at the shop right now so I can't give you any lengths but I can tell you the seat is made out of 1x4 except for the braces where the rope wraps, they should be true 1" thick or even 1-1/2". You will need 2 pieces of 1x4 to double the thwart inside of the rope braces. The width will be determined by the spacing between the ribs. If I recall Steele boats had the seat mounted behind ribs 3&4 where as most boat builders go in front of 3&4.

As for the fly deck brace I use 1x10 I like a nice wide brace plus that leaves a little wiggle room when building it. 8' should be enough for that.

I forgot to ad the pieces that support the rope are actually wider (taller)than the rest of the seat parts by about 1-1/2" of 2".

I would get three for the front seat and probably 4 for the rear. Three would probably be enough but if you are ordering it would suck to be short. Build your significant other a bistro table with the leftovers :)
