Hey all

I just bought a beautiful wooden drift boat ( will post more pics soon ), but I have a few concerns on it. from front to back it only measures 12 so Im wondering if it can handle the south fork of the Boise up here which has a few rapids on it. also the rowing feels a bit strange unless I sit in the center seat (instead of the back seat) and row backwards. If I sit in the back the oars hit my legs. Any suggestions. Also I am looking to find a good place to buy an anchor brace for the back of the boat.

Thanks and Happy Floating!

Hi Matt

Let's see some photos. If it its a Rapid Robert type boat, sitting in the center and rowing backwards is the intended mode - boat goes downstream transom first, you row against the current.

Just added a few Michael. It sure does seem to be a more comfortable way to row but doesn't leave much foot room for the passenger if so. I don't know the builders intended design. Very interested in building my own soon though.
Nice looking boat Matt.  It appears to be a Butler Projects Maxi-Mac boat plan.  If you wanted to row from the rear of the boat, you may need longer oar locks to keep from hitting your knees.  These might help  http://regalsportingtechnologies.com/index.php/Products.html.  They also have an anchor system & foot release available.
