Here's some pics and thoughts on my recent job re-animating an older Don Hill "16' standard" dory. It was an interesting project.
It was a bit hard to resist re-doing simply everything, to resist spending double the agreed-upon fee ( using my own time and money) making every improvement and upgrade that occured to me as I went through this boat, but I think I managed, probably well enough to make about 1/2 minimum wage on this project.
The end result is a boat that is put back together in the same 'fashion' as Don Hill originally sent it out the door. ..that is without being all 'tarted-up'. It was hard to resist getting fancy, but in the end, just replacing rusty fasteners, re-bedding the ones I took out, sanding sanding sanding, etc...That will give the owner more than his money's worth.
I have a real appreciation for this design now. I'll be doing some similar from scratch, using roughly similar dimensions. This older boat has really nice lines.
