I just started Tom Martin's new book, Big Water Little Boats.  It is an incredible history of the first wooden boat trips down the San Juan and Colorado Rivers.  Many fantastic photos from various library collections.  Tom has brought his little boat, Gem, up to the McKenzie River Wooden Boat Festival at least once.  These little decked dories look so small.

Hi Dave, Thanks for your kind note. Glad you are liking the read! They are indeed Little Boats in Big Water! We were just at the Animas River Days festival in Durango, Colorado, and met Neal Newby, 1956 Lee's Ferry to Phantom Ranch in a one man life raft. The little rubber raft looks remarkably like the Pack Raft of today. Now THAT's a little boat! All the best, tom
