I haven't been to this forum before, but it looks like there's a few people here that might be able to point me in the right direction to get work done.

I've got a 1969-70 Keith Steele boat that's been handed down through the family. It is in pretty decent shape - I last rowed it in about 2004, and it worked fine.  The boat has been stored with a cover in a dry, cool storage area since then.  Now that my kids are finally old enough to get out on the water, I'd like to get some basic restoration work done and make it good to go for the next decade.  For what it's worth, I had one local boatbuilder look it over, and while he concurred that it's in excellent shape for an unrestored 40-year-old boat, he's just too busy to do the work.

In addition to lacking any tools, I am completely useless at this kind of stuff.  I'm looking for leads on anyone within a few hours drive of South-central Idaho that does this kind of work on a time/materials basis.  Any help would be appreciated.

Where in ID are you? I'm in Joseph, Oregon and do restoration work. Shoot me an email with what you're looking for and we can discuss- ben@brickbuildingboatworks.com. Sounds like a great boat!

I'm in Jackson Hole and would be interested.

Ben & David -

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'm in Hailey, which is quite a ways (by road) from Joseph, and about 4 hours from Jackson with a trailer in tow.  I'll send you an email.

Tom, share some pictures of the boat.  You will get good information from the folks on this site, especially if they can see some of what you have to work with.  Your boat may not need much TLC if is has been stored well.

I am in Burley, ID if you want to talk.  I am not a professional at boat restorations so I would not want to commit to doing the work myself but I could help you a bit.  I just refinished my dad's 16' Mighty Mac and thoroughly enjoyed getting it all cleaned up and pretty.  I was mostly sanding, oiling, and varnishing.  A small amount of woodwork but nothing major at all.

Hey Tom. I live in Victor and do restore work. Well, there's quite a few of use that do it around this area. If you want us to look at the boat shoot an email. We've done many boats here and in Jackson Hole. Check pictures on my page or AJ Derosa, Kevin Coughlin. Would love to see and work on a Steele boat again.

Would consider taking a mini road trip to see what you have also. Not that far away.

Dutch.
