Varnished Rails Etc - Progress 5.24.09
Some recent progress on the boat.
Managed 6 coats of varnish on the rails - put the hardware in finally.
Put the front floorboards together. I decided to build them to be fully removeable with barrel bolts holding them in... hopefully use them as stream side tables when they are all done. Still need to get the rear set put together and work out the barrel bolts for both.
Oiled the bow of the boat because I was dying to see to how it would look. Looks cool - dark. I will hold off on the rest of the interior until I have the seat pipes put back in and the supports that hold them up.
Took some pics of the progress and random stuff around the workshop.

Looking very good Jason.
Whats your target completion date? I was shooting for a Memorial Day float. I am going to miss it by a day! (varnish is drying, 100% humidity, and rain, sticky oiled interior...)
Are the floors level in that boat? It appears the front boards might be.

The floors are not level - they still need to be be fastened to the bottom frames with the barrel bolts.
I will post a couple pics when I get them bolted down.

Did I see "brass" pipes for your passenger seats in another picture-post, or was I imagining things??

Yes, the pipes and support brackets are out while I was sanding... They will go back in after everything is oiled. You are not losing it... they were there before! haha

Are your "seat pipes" brass or some other type of metal or are they "plated" brass??

They are plated - not sure what the the core metal is. But they are polished and look all shiny and new.

Ahhh, those are ceiling fan down rods. They are very strong and can be purchased in a number of cool colors that are plated to the rod. They cannot be purchased in extremely long lengths so a boat has to require rods within the lengths that can be purchased.
I knew that Jason was an art guy so Sanderson and I decided to use the plated brass rod in his kit.
