Hello Wooden boat people,

My name is Jeff and I'm a woodworker/carpenter/Contractor from Northern California

Chico to be exact like to fish for Salmon and Steelhead on the Sac and Feather rivers near by. I was involved with the Coleman Fish Hatchery reconstruction in the late 1990s and also rebuilding Feather River Hatchery a year later. So much for work, I am retired now and want to build a wooden boat. A jet river boat. I have read several great threads here ! Torn between Glenn-L Scrambler and Tracy O'brian's Deadrise 19. I have not bought plans yet and am still undecided. I have owned Jet sleds out of Aluminum w/ large V-8s, with Gas going up I don't want to go down that road again. I think staying light and running 4 stroke out board jet 60/40 is the way to go. Any insight to these boats appreciated

Jeff

Welcome, thank you for the effort at the hatcheries;have you done a search on this site? I remember at least a couple wood jets on here. I'm not that far from you on Clear Lake and fish the Sac at least a few times a year.

I run a 60/40 on a rivited jon 1648.Boat weighs in the same as the motor at about 270lbs.3 guys and all the gear you can fit it will still get up on step.

I remember seeing a chart, HP to weight . It said 1500lbs max for a 60/40 and i think thats about right.Building a boat of about 500 lbs would work well.I know what a scrambler looks like but not sure what a Tracy O'brian's Deadrise 19. looks like.

Check out Don Wakefields boat he did awhile back, he used a small inboard jet from a jet ski that turned out pretty slick
