Hello Folks,

New to the site and had a couple questions as I am a first time drift boat owner. I recently became the owner of a hand-built drift boat as of last week. I am itching to get to work on it although it is ready to fish, I would like to put some personal touch on it specifically on the interior. I was thinking about removing the interior paint, sanding, staining and adding a varnish to the inside. Can I get some feedback and suggestions on process, brands, etc.? Any and all advice is welcome! Thanks

Chris, there are numerous examples of restorations like you are trying to accomplish found within the past posts of our members. the search function can a valuable tool. Try looking up Steve Putnam's posts for a restoration I am familiar with. He has made all new boat furniture but has not posted any pictures yet. I just checked and confirmed that there are numerous posts connected with Steve's name. The most informative way to use the search function on WBP is to ask a question, "What epoxy should I use?" as an example.

Good luck.

That's a rig to be proud of very nice congrats

Wait till you see the boat furniture he built!

Gotta link to the furniture?  My wife is interested.  Check out the pics on my post about the seat she carved, burned, stained and poly'd?  Can you seal the seat with a poly, or go varnish for the added outdoor protection, Pics to follow.

Chris, cool looking boat.  From your trailer picture, your boat only sits on the roller on the back and the wood peice up front is that correct?

We will take pictures soon.

Rick N

That is correct, a roller on the back and a carpeted wood piece up front of the trailer.

Wife and I took it out this weekend after oiling up the interior, she did great!

Has a minor leak in the middle section of the floor though. Going to touch up the bottom with Coat-It this week in a few different spots that could be the source of the leak. Putting her in this weekend to catch some fish here in Tennessee!

You said tennessee?  I am moving from Washington to Kinga Bay GA in 2 mo.  How is the river drfit fishing down there?  I am trying to decide whether or not to take it with me or sell it for a southern style bass boat? But rivers down there i'm not sure about?  What do you think?
