Build Nearing Final Stages
I have been either working on a place for this drift boat or on the boat itself for three years. Here are a few teaser pictures of some of the parts that I have ready. This was originally a 16' 6" Tatman kit from almost eight years ago. I bought it from a fellow in Bellingham that had stored it at Tatman for a year and then finally came down and picked it up. I then stored it a couple of years or so while I prepared a workspace. To make a long story shorter, here's a few pictures.

Jason, thanks, me neither. I am now removing some epoxy from the side panels that didn't meet my expectations prior to applying finish tomorrow. Saturday I plan to assemble as much as I can. We'll see what Monday thru Thursday brings.

Rick, looks like you're getting into the fun part. Nice looking front seat. What are you using for a topcoat?

General Finishes 450 water borne Polyurethane. Price $70 a gallon, dries in an hour, sprays nicely, UV resistant, can be refinished or repaired by sanding and spraying on some more finish. I love the look of varnish but don't want the hassle. I don't think my boat will be sitting outside much unless I am in it on the water. I got the finish from the local Woodcraft store. I am using a variant in my house an a mantle. The finish on the parts shown is semi-gloss.

Ah, Woodcraft. I don't think you can come out of that place for less than $70, can you? They have some nice stuff, though. And it looks great on your boat.

Home Depot and Lowe's have made a killing on all my sandpaper purchases over the years. I am also glad that I bought a Rigid 1/4 sheet sander witha lifetime repair warranty. When I get done it will be time for a second rebuild!

Hey Rick, I noticed that you put some plywood "collars" around the pipe holes in your front seat. Is that standard practice or your idea?
Either way, it's an elegant solution to backing up those holes. Hope you don't mind me copying you.

I have added 19 more pictures on cutting chine log notches. Sorry, no comments yet but hopefully it should be fairly self explainable. If not I'll be glad to answer questions. Today I got quite a bit more done.
Inside of the side panels got four coats of finish. Chine log notches cut and frames got a coat of finish. So tomorrow is assembly time, stem and transom to sides and frames installed. Hopefully get chine logs installed and perhaps more.
