Question.
Should I decide to paint - which is looking more a more probable... how much paint should it take to do my boat? 17' boat.
Interlux Brightside just went on sale for 26.99/qt... I am thinking of picking some up a that price.
So I have a gallon of z-Spar Captains varnish, a gallon of Penofin marine oil... now I think I need some paint. Just wasn't sure how much to get.

Thanks!

I don't know the answer to your question, but I have one of my own. Have you used the Penofin Marine oil yet? If so have you used it on a boat for an extended period of time? Has it been in the sun without a cover.

If anyone else has some experience I would love to hear your experiences too. Sanderson said that he has used it but I did not see much beyond that.

I painted the outside only of my 16 ft lowside drift boat with white brightside interlux paint and used 2 quarts. I wish I had ordered 3 though as I have none left after 2 quarts and if I need to do any touch ups I need to order more. I primed the boat 1st with interlux primer and then Painted 3 coats of brightside paint sanding with 330 between each coat. If I were you I would order 4 quarts. My boat is only 20 inches high from the chines to the top of the gunnels.
We recommend two quarts of primer and one quart of finish coat for the outside of a drift boat. Make sure your primer is tinted to match your final boat color. Gray for dark colors, white for bright colors.

At Tatman we were using Penofin Marine as the replacement for Deks Olje. That was the best we found beyond a home brew. Today we have found a supplier for Deks and have become Deks distributor.

You can also order from www.DeksOlje.com but you have to order a case (4 gal) at a time. Team up with your friends and split the shipping cost.
Randy, thanks for the response. I am planning to leave tomorrow for the Wooden Boat Festival. No boat but available to help however I can. Looking forward to meeting you and many others. I can hardly wait to see the boats and talk to everyone.

It will be good to meet up Rick. See you there. I'm sure we can find some way to put you to work.
