Hello, Just getting started on the interior of my 15' Honky Dory.

I was just wondering if anyone has used the product WATERLOX? I would be using it to  waterproof the interior boxes and Gunwales.Your input would be of great value.

Thank You Dennis Santino

What is that stuff? A varnish? Inside hatches you can probably get away with most anything, however good luck trying to keep a clear finish on the gunwales. It's probably the highest wear spot on the boat after the Chines. I use oil on the gunwales. And they still get hammered. But if you are super judicious with keeping the oil on gunwales they will look nice and develop a nice patina. Trying to do brightwork on the gunwales is tough, once the finish breaks water gets in and so much for bright. Oil, oil, oil, oil some more, and you will be stoked.ive seen better luck with teak oil than linseed based oil at least in regards to mildew. I plan to use Dalys sea fun teak oil for my boat, heard good reviews.

It looks like they have a marine style product. I have never heard of nor read about anyone trying it. You could test it for us!

Hi Dennis,

I have not used Waterlox. I am also building a Honky and am planning on using epoxy and glass throughout the interior. Let us know how you like the stuff.

Thank you for all your responses. I'm currently testing Waterlox. It's real easy to apply, looks fantastic. It's a two stage application, first is to apply sealers, then the High Gloss finish. Here's a link to a You Tube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZAx6upzQf8. (copy & paste).

I was only going to use it on the inside boxes and seat areas. I think it might be best to epoxy the Gunwales to be save.

I will be posting Pictures in next few days. Thanks Again
