I am looking for a set of plans for around a 10-12 wooden fly fishing pram. I want to do S&G. I really like the Z drifter pram but will mostly be using it on lakes and I want a wide and stable boat for my son and I with wide floor.. I want a boat with high sides and will be using it with a electric motor. I also like the Hudson pram but would want it a little bigger. I also want to build it light as well so I can handle it on my own. Any suggestions would be great.

Hello Tom, visit the MontanaRiverBoats.com site. Check out some of the stitch and glue boats built there. Sandy has a set of plans for the "Buffalo Boat". Sounds just about like what you are after. Wide, stable, stitch and glue and a proven design. Folks like Tungsten have built similar boats to what you describe, but from their own designs. There are a few of us that visit both sites cause' we like the positive and informative group of folks that hang out. Good luck on your quest, keep us informed.

I will thanks for the reply.

Does Zs drifter plans have a G&S option in the plans?

Tom, contact Dave Z via private message. Look him up with the search function at the top of the page.

Tom,

The 11' drift Pram is a nice boat.  Jason is building one on this forum right now to perfection.

As for stitch and glue, I know that one forum member has built this boat from my plans as stitch and glue.  You can very easily do this as well.

However, you want high sides- the sides on this are about 19".  It is very stable, and can be motored.  You could easily make the boat with higher sides if you wish.

I woudl hope you also consider looking at the Rapid Robert boat.  Would work very well for your needs.

One important question would be how do you like to fish and what size of water will you use it on?

Do you want to troll around, or point a to b anchor and cast?

We don't fish large water mostly smaller lakes, and with my son in the boat we usually troll around using a electric motor.

with your fishing in mind- smaller lakes, etc.. why do you figure you need high sides?

low rocker boat, flat bottom, falt on both ends will get you there.  stability is not a concern at all in the drift pram.  we've had two full grown 200 pounders, a cooler of beer and a lillte rat headed boston terrier in it in waves once.

I don't need a high sided boat just want higher sides then I have now very low. Your boat is a beautiful and love the look just would want to simplify it a bit is all.

Flat bottom boats with no keels or ribs won't steer very well with a transom mounted elec.A gust of wind will have your lines in the prop in a hurry.I have a rockered 11' boat with a bow mount an it pulls my boat.Works well since your facing your rods then when trolling.

If you have a transom mount I would look for a design that's more lake friendly,a little dead rise and a pointed bow.Makes steering much easier in the wind.

For weight just a reference,1/4 meranti ply 6566 with 6 oz glass on ea side is 1lb per sq/ft.

hope this helps some.

I did not even think about those things.

I really want to have a flat bottom flat nosed boat.Is their any such plans for one?

Thanks everyone for there help so far!!!

My very first boat was off of http://www.duckworksbbs.com/plans/messer/hudson_springs/index.htm plans,i modified it a little, (wider). Now that I no a little more about building with epoxy I find there a little off on some of there instructions.Theres a video series 'red barn boats' on u tube.Gives you the general idea.

Heres another,http://www.boatdesigns.com/Drift-Prams/products/738/

Just make it longer and wider,12- 13' long and keep the widest part at 48" you'll be very happy.
