I picked up a wood boat to rebuild/restore last summer, & haven't had the chance to begin yet (I have a fiberglass barge (20' homemade DB of questionable origin) that will get me through the summer & teach me to row).

It's a 16' Don Hill kit as I understand it that was assembled by a local builder.

There is one impact fracture on the forward floor (in front of guest seat) that needs to be dealt with (can't see it from outside but noticable inside) & the two vertical pieces of trim on the outside of the transom are rotting (different wood?).

Figured I would post some pics from last summer since I enjoy the pics on here so much.

Couldn’t figure out how to attach to this post so they are in my pictures.

I will be looking for MUCH guidance & advice!

Vance, great find! looks like solid remnants of a once well used craft..strip her down to nude ,poke thoroughly for rot  and re-assemble...once you row that 20' tank this boat will feel like a sportscar. How's the bottom? What's the construction? Injury to the floor you mention can be often dealt with by cutting out affected area on the interior and replaced with a well executed epoxy pour.More pics!

Bottom appears sound other than mentioned injury.  It had UHMW on it before the guy I bought it from got it (he pulled it).  I'm thinking glass on the bottom & possibly the sides.  Plywood shoe?

The rivers I will primarily be using it on (Kenai & Kasilof) are fairly tame.

Pics will have to wait a while as will the work.  Right now it's tarped & on a pallet outside.  No indoor facilities.

Vance, I think you should fly me up to Kenai when the kings are in and we can check your repairs together. I could fish and watch for leaks!

Sounds like fun to me Rick!  Problem is last year they shut down the king season on the Kenai due to low escapement & I'm not betting this yr will be any different.

I can remember when the season there was long and productive with some big fish. My uncle lived in Clam Gulch and Homer from the 50's until the 80's. I got to visit him once before he died and he always talked about the fishing on the Kenai. What's happening on the Kasilof?

kasilof was pretty slow last year too.  Can't remember if they shut it down for a while or not.  There were & still are some big kings in the kenai. My wife's uncle is (was.  died a few yrs ago) Les Anderson, who caught the record (97ish#) king.  My father-in-law (still living but 92) was running the boat.

Vance, that's amazing. Have you been to the museum in Homer? My Aunt Ruth Newman was instrumental in starting and developing it. Both she and my uncle Dana Newman were members of the Pioneers, perhaps your uncle knows about them.
