new member - new boat

 Hello all. Im a new member with a new boat, just finished this week. Want to thank everyone who contributes advice to this forum, I used it often over past year. Boat frame  dimensions taken from Roger Fletchers book on drift boats and river dories, seats and interior made up on the fly.  Anxious to get it into some water, hopefully mid week. Also hope to bring it to boat show in Wilson this Saturday. Try to load some pictures this week, not too computer saavy, maybe i can corner a third grader to help. They should know. Anyway, thanks again for all the help, even if it wasn't intended for me....

Rod, welcome aboard. I'm no longer a third grader but I can help you with posting pictures. Right above the word where you type your message you will see a small icon that looks like a picture, it's just to the right of the word LINK. When you click on it you will see a box that says "ADD IMAGE". First choice is "from my computer", below that is a box that says browse. If you click on that you can look through your files containing photos after you navigate to the proper file. After you select a picture it will load and you can then choose if you want it left, right or centered. You can also decide if you want padding or space around your picture, for example 10 pixels will give a small white space around the sides, top and bottom. The last thing is the width of your picture, 720 is common and will fill the page on most computer screens. You can add five pictures if I remember correctly. If you want to add more, close the first post you started with and add a second or third one.

You are not alone in having a tough time in adding pictures. Post here again or send me a message and I'll try to help.

Welcome Rod,

All of the help here is intended for whoever is willing to use it.  It's fantastic that you have a boat ready for the water.

Rick gives you some good advice on the link.  Another thing you can do is click on the Picture Icon. It looks like this.

It's just to the right of the word LINK in the bar at the top.  If you use the Picture Icon the photograph will be added to this post for everyone to see in context with your message.  If you use the LINK button it will add a link to your post that members can click on to open the picture. 

Best of luck with the new boat and post many photos often.

Thanks Rick. Thanks Randy. I think I figured out how to load fotos. These fotos obviously taken at end of project, next thing to do is get it wet! hopefully wed or thurs. Got to admit im a little nervous. Thanks again for all the advice I got from the forum, there are many experienced people contributing. Great site, keep up the good work.

Breast´hook`

n. 1.

(Naut.) A thick piece of timber in the form of a knee, placed across the stem of a ship to strengthen the fore part and unite the bows on each side.

 

Whatever you call it, the one you installed looks nice...

Rod, I think that not only did you figure out how to post photos but you have succeeded in building a nice boat. From the look of your work it is not the first thing you have built. It look's stunning, it will float well and the only problem you will have is trying to get away from the put in when people keep stopping you to ask questions about your boat. Then there are the take out questions, the gas station questions and the thumbs up while you are pulling your boat!

Thanks Rick. Im pleased with it. the interior is sprayed varnish over epoxy. was quite hesitant to spray varnish but I pretty much hate painting / varnishing. the instructions call for 6 to 8 coats and I just couldnt see myself brushing it 8 times. spraying seemed to put on a pretty good coat although it has a little orange peel texture. but I figured I could scuff it a little and brush 1 more time. maybe this winter. exterior color is an industrial coating I bought from a local paint store that they ordered for a customer that was not picked up. ~ $275 a gallon, sold it to me for $55. its a 2 part system like epoxy but I honestly dont know what it is. salesperson told me they use on ocean bouys and off shore oil rigs so should be pretty tough. time will tell. also able to spray it, lots of masking, unmasking, remasking, etc etc etc

Wow! That is a sharp looking boat. Excellent finish work and paint. I love the figured wood. You should be proud of that thing. I'm bummed I won't be at the boat show to see it. Love the dry storage and the varnish. Really nice finish work. I am impressed!
