Eric Ortegren, a member of our site and I have been in contact since he joined. Our friendship his lead me to his experiences as a Veteran in service to our country. Some of you may have seen the fishing event that he was involved with in Alaska I posted here. Eric has become highly involved in Veterans affairs and sent me information on www.veterans111111.com . It is a video presentation that shows who the veterans are, sort of a day in the life of vet's that have returned from war. I haven't seen it but I believe in supporting those that served us. If you visit the website you see find out where free showings and also where and when public TV stations will be showing this video.

I hope that people find this information helpful.

Respectfully,

Rick Newman

BUMP. been looking thru the post and found this. thank you for posting it.

I am a VN vet. 1966 to 1967. I won't tell you what I did. I was in a special forces team. I am fine and came back ok. I have a hard time looking at the VN wall. seen a lot of guys came back all shot up. it hurts to think about it. I was in the Navy. just saw this and the tears are flowing. thank you. all the one's who didn't come back our my hero's. also thanks to all Vet's who served and serving our country.

John, while I am not a vet I respect and appreciate all those who served  and serve today. I have been volunteering with Project Healing Waters and have met some fine folks. We recently held a Two-Fly Event on the Yakima River with 24 teams of fishermen/women. (There is a previous post on this hear on Wooden Boat People.) It was an honor to spend time with them. One of the biggest groups of PHWFF(Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing) in Washington State is based a Joint Base Lewis McChord JBLM. Chuck Tye is the State Coordinator for all the groups and also oversees that group.

I spend Tuesday mornings and some Thursday mornings working with our members to help them learn to tie flies and the basics of fly fishing. I just spent an enjoyable weekend with a fellow from our group and we floated and fished for steelhead. He has been in the Spokane Fly Fishers for two months and this was his third fly fishing experience. It was a pleasure to work with him and teach him some of the things I know about fishing for steelhead, I wish I could say I taught him what I knew about catching steelhead on a fly but my catching steelhead was side drifting with eggs.

John, welcome aboard, we welcome everyone and are glad you found us. I hope to come to the green side of the state and fish for Chum and Coho soon. My favorite Chum location is at Hoodsport, which my buddy and I call Chumport.

We would love to see some pictures of you fleet. I just posted some hints of posting pictures on one of Cody's posts.

thanks Rick. I say thanks to you for your help in PHWFF. hopefully sometime I will join this group. I also tie flys. my first kayak is 20' and a double. built it 14yrs ago. the canvas is now rotting and I have to re do it. this time with ballistic nylon. I am also about ready to cover with the same cloth a 14' kayak of my own design for my wife. I also have 2 other off the wall kayaks that I want to build. both different but both 16'.

I first have to finnish my extension on my shop so I can build inside but since I am retired and we live on our SS money flows slow. I am in contac with Dave Z for his plans for the little pram he did to build. oh so many things to do an little money.

yes come over soon, the chum are moving. I will be in So. Cal, leaving in the morning and will be back next Mon. going to see one of my grandsons graduate from Marine boot camp.

thank you for the welcome, I like the site and the folks who are here. a lot of help here to be had. later, tight lines and happy rowing.

John, you are most welcome. I need to send Eric photos of my boat now that I am busy floating with it. even though we have never spoken we have become relatively good friends. Thanks for your service and look forward hearing from you and perhaps meeting you. I plan to be somewhere on the West side in a few weeks, SS willing!

Rick, let me know when you'll be here. maybe we can go get some chum. I don't live far from chumsport.
