I was thinking of using a brass nail to hold/start my rope wrap on my oars.I also am almost ready to install my outer chine rail,should I use screws only or some adhesive as well.I would appreciate any advice.Thankyou to all who respond

No need to use nails for the wraps. Check out how I did mine 3/4 way down on this page. You might have a better idea, but that worked really good for me. You dont really need that tape, but it really held the parachute cord good so I could let go when my hand got tired during the wrap.

On the chine cap, (or did you mean the rail?)thats the place water will get through the screw holes. I use Sikaflex, its a gooey sealer/bedding compound/adhesive that seals good on the back of chine cap and the screws, but will come apart some day if needed to to replace the cap

Nails aren't a good idea. 

As Mike says, you'll need to bed the chine cap in a polysulfide compound - Jamestown sells Life Calk, that's what I used. The goal is to use enough so it fills completely and squeezes out.
