Rear Knee Brace
Just wondering if any one out there has an interesting solution for a rear knee brace, I don't like the arch gunnel to gunnel brace, I'm looking for a different solution something in the middle and sturdy enough to lean against. I'll look forward to the creative solutions that will come.

I saw this boat last summer and really liked the knee brace, I am not sure how it is attached, It looks like maybe it is attached to the removable floor, I was in hurry when I took the photos and did not really look too hard, I think I can make something like it to fit my boat.

Looks pretty good despite the sore neck from looking at it.
If I were to construct something like that I would put it through the top of the false floor. That way the floor and the leading edge of the floor would add support and you would not need the additional blocking on the outside. Just a cleaner solution in my opinion.
If you were wanting to remove it easily you could use a some sort of pin or bolt to secure it in the holes.
Here is a rough idea of what I am talking about. You could use aluminum, brass, tubing or thick wood dowel or square stock like in the photo.

I agree, my other boat is a hyde boat and the rear knee brace uses to rods with steel pins that drop into plastic receivers surrounded by an aluminum block,the whole thing is glassed into the floor. Using that theory you could put blocks under the floor and either use pins or attach the uprights to the blocks and the rib on the floor and the floor itself, that would give it the extra rigidity it would need, I am going to explore copying my old hyde system in wood.

Dan, you are reading my mind. You could make the top as simple or as complicated as you want. Make a removable floor and use the sliding bolts to attach it. The small braces on the front could extend even further under the rower's seat and you could even have a piece or two of wood that runs between the brace and hooks over the rowers seat. Something parallel to the boat bottom with the end modified to slip over the frame edge or have barrel bolts that connect it to the back of the seat frame. The top of the casting pedestal could look just like your front one, just make a copy of it in wood and add the knee braces in the same manner they are on the front knee brace.
Now I will have to build one for myself! Let me know if my ideas make sense.

I was thinking that you could use some type of flange attached to the bottom of the boat or to the false floor like this. I think it is used for patio umbrellas.

You may even be able to use you Hyde knee brace, assuming that is not sacrelige on a wood boat.
I do like the Hyde braces with that soft rubbery material that they are made of.

It would be sacrilege to use mine, it's old and made of fiberglass besides I think I can do it in wood using this post and pin system, If you sink that bracket into a block of oak attached to the bottom of your floor and maybe the rib, now only to cover the aluminum posts with some kind of exotic wood laminate...

What about just painting those metal rods with the same color paint as the outside of the boat. Make a sweet brace top out of wood like in the picture and your golden. Might wanna consider some minicell foam paddling glued on in contact points to cushion your knees. A full day of my plain woods hooks tends to bruise up my knee pretty good. Hoping to get the minicell installed for this season for bruise free fishing.
