Restoration - 4 oz. or 6 oz. glass on outside?

I have a 40 + year old boat I am restoring and am seeking opinions and direction on whether to use 4 or 6 oz. glass to add some support to the wood exterior. The boat is currently down to bare wood and I plan on oiling the interior. I plan on varnish on the exterior, over epoxy (and figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to add some glass. Any comment would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Either one will work well, it just depends on how much protection and weight you want to add to your boat. I went with the heavier cloth because the total weight did not bother me. I wanted durability. So there will be guys that say both, and give you reasons on each,but in the end it is really up to you. Have fun!

I'm assuming that you have Douglas Fir plywood. Because the summer growth rings and winter growth rings expand and contract at different rates they need to be protected by the glass you intend to add. I'm with Terry, it's more of an individual choice, weight versus protection. Cost won't be much different. Show us some pictures.
