I finally got the bottom and one side sanded. Here are some new pics of the boat as i get ready to lay the first layer of glass. Im using 10 oz. Glass after advice from some on here. Im contemplating putting a second layer of 10 oz on. Thank you US Composites for the awesome wholesale prices. Like 6 bucks a yard for 50" wide 10 oz. Awesome.

We welcome you to bring your boat to the Festival. I look forward to seeing you there. I also posted your pictures.

Thanks Rick. How did you get the pics to post in the forum and not as an attachment.

So i found out this is a Square end McKinzie River dory from Fletcher's book on building boats.  Awesome book btw for anyone who is thinking of building a boat.

I have the one side sanded smooth down to the glass on the sides.  The paint looked wavy from over the years of being exsposed to the weather.  The other side still needs sanded but i am going to do that after i get the bottom done. So for now after i sanded, filled sanded, filled some more, soanded some more, and wiped it down, i layed a first layer of epoxy (Thank you US Composites for the 2 gallon -(2 gallons of epoxy-1 gallon of hardner) for a great price.) to wet into the wood.

The First layer of 10.oz went down last night.  I originally ordered 6 yards of 8 oz, but ordered 10 yards of 10oz after the fact and went with that.  i'm thinking two layers of 10 oz might be good enough, or maybe just one.  I am not planning on taking this thing to very many rough rivers.  I am moving to GA in jun and was going to take it with me unless i can get someone to buy it.  Not a whole lot of drift boat stuff down there.  Back to the ole Bass boat! Any thoughts on just 10 or should i go ahead with 20oz.  I still have the other roll of 8 oz as well, i could do a 28oz bottom.  The sides look like it is 1/4" plywood covered in glass. A thin glass at that.  The inside is pretty beat up as well.   alot of wood checking that i'll have to put in check.  never heard that one i bet.  haha.    I cut off the rope for the front seat and plan on putting webbing down instead.  The boat is hanging from the straps because we were checking the clearance on a trailer i picked up fairly cheap i am also building,  Thta one is at the neighbors (got a nice sunburn from all the welding on that one.)  More Pics will be up soon.

I am hoping to finish this in time to make it to the Mckenzie River festival in april before i transfer.  I've never done a drift down a river, much less in a drfit boat.   Looking for someone to show me the ropes if anyone is looking for a ride btw.  Another questions,  i have seen a lot of anchor systmes on the bow of the boat.  Is this mainly for tying up to the bank or for drifting?  When drifting down the river do you drag the pyramid anchor off the back?  Thanks for any input.

So here are some pics of the project in process and some of the seats my wife has been carving on.

Those are really sweet! Does she do tattoos?

Not so much tattoo's as Henna art.  This one is her artwork on her from a friend that does henna tattoo's.  She's done some other pretty cool stuff. I'm waiting to see what she chooses for the oars.  Solid 10ft oak oars.  any ideas for oar locks.  The old rubber sleeves were rotten,

She says thanks for the compliment!

WOW! I thought the seats were cool!

It Think i got the epoxy and part station down pat?

That boat is designed to go down the river with the square end facing downriver and the pointy end upriver so the anchor would hang off the pointy end thus you can anchor while drifting.

Hope to see you at the show.

Mike
