I can't seem to locate pine tar at Lowes, Home Depot or Ace hardware. I haven't tried a paint store yet, but anyone have any suggestions where else I might be able to find it?

Try a farm store. They sell it for use on horse's hooves. Where are you located in general. There should be several in the Redding, California area. Here's a link to an online source. http://www.woodenboatstore.com/Varnish-_-Pine-Tar/products/168/

Good luck.

Great. Thank you Rick. We have lots of ranch and home stores here. Humm...as a matter of fact, my neighbor is a farrier, maybe she has some laying around!

Troy: Hamilton Marine 800-639-2715. If you get some from the ferrier it might be real "tar". Idf so warm it in a double boiler before mixing it with the LO/Turps/Drier. It will mix up much easier.
Bickmore Pine Tar. Tractor Supply, in the equine section as noted. We use it on hooves and on chicken feet/injuries....Oh yeah and sometimes we use it in oil mix for wood boats!
Great, thanks Dave. I have a Tractor Supply on my way home from work!
