Hi all.  I've been building a whitewater dory for a while, with Andy Hutchinson's, and others, help.  While the hull is Core Cell foam, the decking, hatches and frames, and gunwales will be (or already are) wood.  My blog detailing this build is www.westtavaputs.com if anyone is interested in checking it out.

I hope to have it done by this spring and in the water for some summer or fall floats.  Crossing fingers on the upcoming permit season!

Thanks,

Jon

I wanted to update this post and again invite anyone to check out my dory at my blog listed above.

I'm in the final home stretch now (if I dare say that). Some delays with work, family, weather, fishing trips, more fishing trips, etc....

The antiskid coat is drying (hopefully) in the garage as I type. Rolled it on this morning after lots of taping and masking last night. Will be doing some final sanding on the hull followed by a high build primer coat and then a combo of Kirby and Pettit marine paint. Then I'll paint the transom design, add the hatch hinged and Southco latches and some final hardware.

Finally, clean up all of the overspill on the ash and walnut gunwales and coat with LTV. Then install the oarlock stands.

My Sawyer oars are in Dolores CO right now so once I get them I'll add the leather wraps and leather stop and be pretty much done.

Hope to see you on the river.

Thanks for sharing,I'm curious if you know what the final thickness ended up at on the bottom skin?

thanks,

Tungsten, I really don't know as I don't have a cut off piece to measure. Guessing around 1" after core cell and inside and outside layups.

It's funny how I keep saying over and over how my boat is almost done, and then something comes up.  This time it was summer with other rubber boat trips and various other diversions.

Last few steps are being done,  touch up paint jobs and adding the polished oarlocks.  I've held off on adding the seat and seat rails, and footbrace/bar until I get my oars so I can measure where I want everything.

I invite all to take a look at my blog, link above.  Appreciate any comments, suggestions, etc.s

Thx

Jon

This past Saturday we held our boat launching party followed by some burgers and beers at the MBS (Marland Boat Shop). Pics and stories are here.

I'll try to post some pics to this web forum later if I can, right now at work.  Anyway, here's hoping for some good river permits next year!
