Guess it's a sign that we've had a lot of rain - I've been tinkering more than usual this winter and came up with a couple of new boat "apps" to amuse myself.  This pretty much confirms that I'm a certified wood boat geek....   and "yes" Rick, the leather strap came off my wife's old Hartman luggage.  ha ha

Greg, Without question, it ranks in the top two of the category: "Best use of Tonkin Bamboo ever". JG

Ha - thanks John... that bamboo is the "good stuff" from my friend and bamboo rod building buddy Chet Croco of Bellinger Rods.  He had a few thousand "scraps" to pick from....

Greg, now that I see the "angle in your ways" I would have immediately guessed rod holder.  You probably have gotten more mileage out of that luggage than your wife!  Nice job, much better than sticking the rod under a cheek and hope it stays in the boat.  With a bigger piece of bamboo you could almost make a "locking" ring to capture the rod like "Scotty" rod holders have.

Seriously, good job.  Any info from Randy on event date or dates?

You fishin' friend,

Rick Newman

Thanks there brother....  Randy set April 23rd as the Festival date - looking forward to seeing you then.

Greg, you beat me to it. I have been looking at available rod holders and sketching a bamboo version - but lacking a stash of luggage hadn't resolved it.  Looks good.

Michael

Thanks man...  keep those sketches - we'll see how my rod holder performs with a 30" steelhead on the end.  I think it will do really well - but you never know.... ha.

GH

That is an awesome rod holder. Now you just need a bamboo rod in there.

Yup... I'll have to talk to Chet Croco about that!!!  A 7 wt. Bellinger would be a perfect "fit" for that rod holder, don't you think.

GH

I like that....
Can you make me one that holds a 22 oz. Ninkasi Total Domination IPA?  Fishing Bellinger to Hayden Bridge tomorrow.  Are you going to be out on the water (or making my beer holder)?
Ha ha. I'll start working on that Ninkasi Holder. In K.C. Trying get out of another big snowstorm. Good luck on the float today!!
Leather and varnished wood, a match made in heaven.
