Since I hear a lot here about oil being used on boats I was wondering what people use?

I have had little luck with varnish on ash gunwales. It's too much maintenance. A little oil now and then seems better then sanding.

I have tried linseed oil with a little japan drier but, that doesn't seem to last very long. The last thing I used was penofin oil with a little wax to make it thicker. It works ok but I was wondering if people would be willing to share their oil recipes.

I used the Linseed Oil, Pure Gum Turp, Pine Tar & a splash of Jap Drier. (Boat Soup recipe I got from Dave Z.)
Seemed to work pretty well - good penetration into the wood, and much more affordable than Penofin Marine Oil (I used Penofin the first time I oiled - decent stuff)
