Just my hello from Utah

Just stopped to forum to say hi. Found this site when looking for marine plywood in the Utah area. I have not built a white water boat but see on in the future. My project right now is out of the pages type of boat. But I am building in wood but a much larger boat than what is here. I run a page on face book called Home Made Boat building http://www.facebook.com/Home.Made.Boat.Building and I am a active member with Glen-l forum they are long time suppliers of Boat plans, patterns, and kits for the amateur boat builder. I hope to pick your brains and gather info from you. I was also wondering if there are any builders in Utah area

There are a few of us building here in Utah.

 

As for plywood we don't have a lot of options. MacBeath hardwoods on 300 West has some marine plywood but,,,,,,, they are not bargain.

ok I was afraid of that I had called them earlier in last year was hoping somebody knew of someplace else.  Anybody somebody that ships in cheap. maybe I can get MacBeath's to give me a discount lol I need about 14 sheet of different sizes. thanks for the offer of help lol may have to hire a crane to do the flip but that is some time from now I am building a very big boat  this time lol haul weight around a ton

Ihad Macbeath bring 12 sheets of Hydrotek in from San Diego for me, cost was 55/sheet shipped. They don't get regular shipments from CA, so you pay special order shipping costs. They stock Okoume at 95/sheet, 6mm and Aquatek meranti, which I've been told is not suitable for much.



Discounts from Macbeath?? LOL indeed.

Hi I live here in Utah and I build small one man boats.  I thought I was the only one building boats here in Utah. 

I build original boats from designs that just bounce around in my head.  My designs work but I am not happy with my finishing of fiberglass on the plywood.  I am hoping to find some pointers on how to get a smoother surface.

 

As far as plywood goes I just use exterior grade plywood, usually  1/4 inch.

I know some of the guys here in Colorado have used Boulter Plywood

I used Boulter for my build - Chris is awesome and the wood and marine plywood is tremendous  - however, they are located in Maryland (i'm in PA not too far away). Not sure how the shipping could be from the east coast (however i would think you could find cheaper, but who knows?); otherwise I would highly recommend. J.G.

I'm another Utahan. I thought you might like to know about the wooden boat get-together we're holding Sat., Sept 10, 1000 - 1700 at Rockport Reservoir. I'm bringing our 15 ft wooden sailing dinghy. Email me if you are interested. BTW: I started a page on FaceBook called "Utah Wooden Boat Rendezvous" as well.
