My specific questions are;

1.       How to properly reinforce the transom to support an outboard.

2.       What is the outboard range you would suggest on one of these boats(building a 15 foot freestone MBB). I was thinking along the lines of an 5-8 HP long shaft.

3.       I would like to be able to add and remove the outboard as per the river fishing requirements. For example it’s a must have on the Sacramento but not needed on the Yuba. I am assuming I will need to take the placement of the anchor system and hole in consideration of this requirement?

Rounding the bend on my boat project and was hoping someone could shed some light here so I can rap this project up.

1. I would make a "knee" from the transom to the floor. This is fairly common with small skiffs. Transom is probably 3/4 to 1 inch thick. If not I would get it up to that thickness or more.- where the OB is attached running from gunwale to gunwale. The knee might be 1 1/2 to 2" thick and extend up the transom around 12" and out on the bottom around the same distance. I can be shaped with a curved face- looks better thasn a straightr 45 deg angle. Some 2 1/2 # 12 or around that silicon bronze FH wood screws and epoxy should do the job. Make one out of scrap 3/4" and see what it looks like

2. Just a guess but 5 hp should be enough- get the l lightest one possible - 2 stroke. 4 strokes seem to be heavy- and more expensive.
3. Don't know about this one- but you could mount the OB off center to keep away froom the anchor pully system.

Just one mans idea- others may have better approaches to you problem
Has anyone had luch with motor mounts, they make some that can be attached to the bow but hold the outboard up and away from the transome. Small versions of a jackplate.
JOSEPH.

I think the anchor is generally placed on the bow of the boat for this set up but I have seen them put to one corner on the transom. Good luck.
