Where to find Name Plates?
So, I'm building a whitewater dory with my Dad and we are getting close to the finish line. As a gift, I'd like to give my Dad an engraved name plate for the boat. One that goes inside to identify the builder...
Any ideas on where to find something like that?
Where is the traditional place to mount the plate?

Ukulsdy: Try the Wooden Boat Magazine store- I have seen them in the past. Common brass plate could be cut and engraved . Mount up on the forward deck near the bow so all can see it.

Yeah, any trophy shop can make a little engraved plaque to your specifications.
The oldest Briggs boats used to have the the little identifier plate on the bulkhead of the bow hatch. The later ones had it on the transom, up against the trip board. If I recall correctly, Woody Hindman used to put his on the inside left gunwale near the back of the boat. I reckon placement depends on whether you want subtle or showy.

Yup... Wooden Boat Store has a classic nameplate in brass that I bought. I went with subtle - on the transom at the back of the boat...

Thanks everybody for your help.
I went to a trophy shop as, Ron suggested, and had one made up:
2 x 4" leaded brass. It came to about $40.

Kelly, Great name. In my experience, if you mount those things in front of you anywhere head-on (ie; bow stem), the sun will reflect off of them and blind you at the most in-opportune moment...

Getting close to the big day. Can't wait to give my Dad the name plate to mount on the boat. I decided to put it in the port side hatch on the bulkhead between it and the front cross hatch. I pre-drilled the tiny holes and dabbed them epoxy.
