I didn't want to jack Jason's thread, that said i thought it better to start another.  I've inquired of a builder/engineer about designing a ply on frame sled in the 17'6" category.  Something similar to this
boat CLICK HERE.  If any one has a better idea, or a
better source I would appreciate it.

I should have added I have requested a tiller steered version not a console or windshield version.  I like all of the extra room afforded in the shorter boat by tiller steering.
sounds good, will You control it while fishing with a kicker, the main outboard,or oars.Is it to be jet outboard or prop?
Check out Justin Crump's posts to the Wood Sled thread.  He built the Rogue Runner and has pics using it with an outboard jet with tiller.

Jordan,

Thanks for posting this thread... it got me thinking about the sled idea again.

Let me know how you plans develop... I am really interested to see more on this topic.

Thanks for the questions guys!  It has spurred some thoughts.  I think I will use a kicker, secondary to the main outboard jet (depending on my budget for motors I suppose...)  I think I need to get with Justin and ask him about his experience with the Rogue Runner.  I am about half way with my 17' drifter project so this is all preliminary, but you all know how it goes.  Got to keep the building excitement going!!!
Speaking of getting in touch with Justin...If you read this drop me a note on your experience with the Glen-L plans.  I was curious to whether or not you redesigned the transom.  The pics on the Glen-L site show a transom designed for the motor to be inset for steering mechanisms I believe.  Yours looks to be a slightly curved single piece that is not inlet for the motor, simply put (I hope) the motor mounts strait to the transom as in your pics...I haven't made a decision on my plans yet, so your input would be great.
Well, after much thought, and looking covetously at Justin's photos, I am going to have to give the Scrambler from Glen-L designs a try (after I finish the drifter).  You can see it HERE.  I wish they had study plans...
