First and foremost, you all have some incredible boats! I am new to the site and want to get my feet wet in building a wooden drift boat. I live in the mid west so I am looking to build a drift boat, but won't be experiencing any huge whitewater rivers while on the water. I have been looking at different sites for boat plans. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to buy a set of plans from? I am looking for a drift boat that will carry 2-3 people comfortably for fly fishing. I like the look of a Mackenzie style, but I am up for suggestions. I am an experienced woodworker and have most of the tools that I would need.  Any suggestions and info would be great. Thanks ahead of time! Brian

For general drift boat construction and history start with Roger Fletcher's book - Drift boats and river dories.  It has plans for several boats that could be built framed or stitch-and-glue.  His book describes framed drift boat construction.  For frame plans in addition to Roger's book see Don Hill River Boats.  For stitch and glue plans see Montana Boat Builders and Montana Riverboats.  For stitch and glue boat construction see Devlin boatbuilding, and Glenn L.

Brian look at riverstouch.com Roger Fletcher, or dhdriftboats.com Don Hill you can't go wrong with either one.

Thanks for the info guys! I am going to go and pick-up a couple books today. I like the thought of reading Fletcher's book first and then making a decision on what to build. I am glad I found this site before buying a set of not so good plans. I will keep you guys posted, and look forward to hearing more insight from you all. Thanks again everyone!
