8th Annual McKenzie Wooden Boat Festival

As usual, thanks to Randy and Debbie Dersham for hosting this event at their beautiful lodge.  Great food, great beer, a fantastic array of historic and contemporary boats, great weather, great water level for the float.  It was wonderful to see old friends, and meet new friends.  For those who were there, and for those who couldn't make it, we should enjoy some great photos which will be posted.

It is hard to create a big enough thank you to Randy and Debbie for their incredible efforts and successful 8th annual event.  I keep saying each year; best event yet, however, this year goes to the top.

Had a great time at the show. It was my first but hopefully not the last. Got a great show poster for the man cave also and some great ideas for my drift boat restoration. Thanks to all who worked so hard to put on this great happening on a beautiful river!!

Once again the Parade was well attended and featured 20 boats or so. They were strung out a ways so it was hard to count them all. The weather was sunny and pleasant all day long. The water level was pleasant and Clover Point had some nice waves.

New boats, old boats, traditional boats, never floated before boats and 20th anniversary boats were present.

Dutch's boat was built in 1955.

How about a new boat, with a "new" passenger, Cooper, 14 weeks old. I'm told that he had a great time!

Here's Ben Kittel all the way from Colorado with his new boat. He'll be working in Sisters, OR this summer.

More pictures to come, I'm on the road now, slowly heading back to Washington State on my way to the Washington State Fly Fishing Fair next weekend. I'll keep posting and will add a bunch of "detail" pictures to my page as I have for several years.

Thanks to Jayson Hayes for all his hard work last night. He, well we, Rick, Cooper and Jayson installed my fly deck. It sure is nice to work with such a knowledgeable and charitable guy.

Thanks again to Randy, Debbie, the Eagle Rock Staff, the McKenzie River Guides and everyone else that contributed to the event. The shuttle drivers, the tractor drivers and everyone else.

This event means more to me than all the other holidays all year long, It is wonderful to get together with everyone, some of which you have only visited with via email or here.

Time for some more pictures. I'm in Portland now. The Eagle Rock Lodge provided a wonderful location for the event. Here's a view of the Lodge from the lawn.

Craig Curtis built a very nice Ray Heater designed boat. Lots of great woodworking and a beautiful finish.

Here's one for Greg Hatten, His Grand Canyon boat the Portola took part in the parade. Greg will be returning to the "Big Ditch" to commemorate a fifty year anniversary of importance to saving the Grand Canyon as wilderness.

Here's the last one for now. Greg Hatten graciously shared the oars of the Portola with Tom, a teacher that will be using a drift boat build to teach his rural students about a variety of subjects.

Greg is the guy with a smile on the bow.
