Well, the inaugural trip in the new boat went off without a hitch. Actually, better than I could have expected.

We drove 6 hours to the Muskegon river and met up with some friends there.

Here are some pictures of the boat.

And here is a beauty of a fresh chromed out hen that I caught! Estimated to be 16 - 17 lbs and BEAUTIFUL!

The cover showed up from Don Hill and it is awesome! Actually, the boat is still out in my drive way under a few inches of snow right now but i am pretty sure it is staying fairly dry and protected until I can get it into a heated garage.

I will try and put up some more detailed pictures of the boat in the next few days. I am very pleased with how it came out.

Thanks to the guys here for their input and ideas. This is a really cool site with some really talented builders...a great resource!

John, great to see pictures of your beautiful boat. I am envious of your beautiful steelhead too. Glad your boat cover has worked out. I found mine not to be totally waterproof, I need to keep the drain plugs out and even added one in the center of the boat on the right hand side.

John, that turned out to be a awesome lookin boat. I really like what ya did. nice steel, what a way to break in the boat.

Fantastic, what a fish! One friendly suggestion though, from someone who has done it; let out a little more anchor line before you jump out. One time I dropped the anchor straight down and jumped out to net a fish, took a nice picture and through the viewfinder I saw my brothers boat go by with no one in it!

John,

You have an absolutly beautiful Drift Boat there!  Four Cup Holders for the Oarsman?????   Lots of nice craftmanship there!  Thanks for sharing.

Nice Steelhead too, I assume you were on the the upper Muskegon below the Dam.  Never fished there but have friends who do and have had simular success.
