Hi,
New to site and new to boat owning. My husband just purchaced this boat loving the looks of it. We hope to restore it together. We were told it is a 1956 Thompson wood boat. But after doing a little reading I think it's a Thompson spin off, bc the side of the boat says cruiser inc. I was wondering if there was anyone out there that could help me figure out, what exactly I have. We bought it from a women today who had been keeping it in her garage after her husband passed away, and didn't know much about it herself. It seems to be in good condition as far as us amateurs can tell. No rot. Our main concern is the trailer she stored it on was not an exact fit, so there are some slight indentions in the wood where it has been resting. My husband plans on getting it off that trailer this weekend. Any advise on restoring is also appreciated! Thank you!

Thompson was a big name back in the day for lapstrake boats. I had a 16` runabout and my buddy had a 18` cuddy cabin. They had their own name plate. Seems like I remember seeing the cruisers name plate around too. Sounds like a fun project. One thing I learned is you want well placed carpeted rail supports on the trailer and not wheels.

This site though is more about western drift boats, most often for fly fishing and for running rivers with oars. There are other sites for wood power boats and maybe someone will post one for you. Have fun with your project

You might want to visit woodenboatforum.com, as Mike suggested it is one of the leading power and sailboat sites. I spend a lot of time there and the issues you brought up are often discussed there.
