How to get the Boat from CO to OR

So here is the issue. Going to have my new McKenzie done in time for taking up to Sisters, OR for the summer, however first I need to get it there. As we all know drift boat trailers are hard to come by in Colorado. I was going to buy a trailer from Boulder Boat Works, BUT it would seem they are sold out of them until June. That will be too late as I need to be in Sisters by May 1st for a new job. So now I am trailerless and looking for ways to het my boat up to Oregon.

Of course there are many companies around central Oregon that make trailers, but delivery charges makes it kinda steep.

Any ideas on how I can get the boat up there and then buy a new trailer once I get to OR.?

I would love one, but I'm guessing shipping will add quite a bit. I have not asked them directly, but other trailers were way expensive to ship.

Put er in the back of the Uhaul or other trailer your moving with? Maybe rent a bigger Uhaul so the boat will fit along with all your other stuff?

Im buying an old jaloppy trailer for mine, sand blasting it and modifying it for the drift boat. That might be a cheaper solution if you can find an old boat trailer?

Ben, I often use "search all craiglists" now ad hunter. to look over what's available throughout the west or just Washington or Colorado. I just took a look there for drift boat trailers and didn't find many. However when I looked for "utility trailers" I found quite a few in Colorado. My thought is fine one that's is in good shape, with obvious resale value, buy it and use it for the move. Get to Oregon, sell it and use the proceeds for a trailer where they are more available.

since your going to need a drift boat trailer anyhow, it couldnt hurt to talk to a couple of trailer shops in your area and have them give you a quote to have one built, sometimes its much cheaper than going thru someone who distributes trailers because there is no mark-up on the price and they can be built by a trailer shop in a matter of a couple days for the same quality

I've had All American Trailers in Commerce City do some work on my drift boat trailer (put in a new 3.5 inch heavy duty axle for me).  They are some really good guys and do a great job.  They also build custom trailers.  I'd give them a call if I were you to check it out.  Maybe they can make you a trailer or have other ideas.  303 853 0495.  http://www.allamericandenver.com/

Call Dennis Linden in Washington 253 884-4910.  I just got a guote ($1125.28)  for a complete complement of trailer components, axle wheels, fenders, lights, shipping etc. from him less the steel tubing (local price is $140 for 48 ft. of 2 x 3 mild steel tubing). 

The cost, included to ship it here (Michigan) is only $200.  I good deal.  Included also is a CD with drawings for the framing.  With these drawings I am sure you can find a fabricator in your area who can build it.  Dennis is a great guy and will provide lots of assistance.  He's been building trailers for 35 yrs.

Ben:  I was in a similar situation having to move a 13' peapod from Maine to Montana.  Look at Tractor Supply and see if they have  utility trailers.  I bought  an 8' single axel(1500 lb) for about $700, spent another $150for some welding/cut off rear ramp to 24". Probably another $150 for tiedowns, winch, spare tire carrier,  spare tire,etc..  Finished the whole thing in less than a week.  Pulled it 3000 miles without a problem except for a rooster on interstate 90 that dissapeared in a cloud of feathers.  It will also be used to haul wood, topsoil, elk, etc.

Good point's Lawrence. There is actually quite a bit of information on using Harbor Freight trailers, we don't have a lot of Tractor Supply stores out here, they are a mainly mid-west based chain. Folks actually weld the trailers up to stiffen them up, and essentially do similar custom changes to what you did.

So Lawrence, what's the next project? There's a Herreshoff H28 that's been seen on Ebay recently. It didn't sell at $10 K.
