Long story short, I have lots of river experience, just not with wooden boats, I have inherited a Greg Tatman kit.  No manual and no idea how to assemble this thing.  The sides on the bottom edge are about 15' and the square piece that is the bottom, that I assume gets trimmed is 60" wide.  So not sure which kit it is.  I'm not even sure if I have all the pieces or not.  Anyone have an inventory list for pieces, or any kind of instructions or pictures on how to do this?  I got a big shop, tools, and skills.  I'm a general contractor and cabinet builder, but I'm not sure how to put this puzzle together.  Any help is appreciated.

Hello Duke, there is a strong chance that you have what is referred to as a 14' McKenzie. When completed it should measure 14' from the upper point of the bow to the back side of the transom. What is the length of the rectangular piece of plywood?

I have just found my Tatman manual and am preparing to scan a copy of it for another member. I will include you in the distribution of the document. Pictures of my boat and the build can be found on my page. Go to my photos on Rick Newman's page here on Wooden Boat People. I can answer quite a few questions if need be.

The purchase of Roger Fletcher's Drift Boats and River Dories will be very helpful in building your boat. Since Roger goes through building a very similar boat you can learn both construction techniques and nomenclature of the boat's parts and pieces.

The bottom piece is 15'2", which is what the bottom of the sides measure also.  I would love to have a copy of the manual.  I'm assuming the your talking about a book when you mention Roger Fletcher?

Yes his boat "Driftboats and River Dories", available at Riverstouch.com. He is the keeper of the history of these boats.

I just went on Amazon and found it and ordered it!

Hey Duke, I have a compete build book for a Greg Tatman 17' 52 boat. If this helps, let me know. I am in Mink Creek, Idaho.        Steve

I sent Duke and Gregg fifty pages digitally for a 16 x 48 yesterday. It would be interesting to see how they compare.

I haven't seen anything yet on my end.  I'm assuming it's through email?

Duke, I sent through email. I will redo it this am. I run several computers and sent it from one I don't use all the time.

Rick N

Thanks Rick, I got it now.  I can't wait to start building!

Duke, did you get the big file or multiple smaller ones?

Rick

I got a bunch of small ones, but they work fine.  The book also came in today, so I need to start ready some, then I can start building!

Duke,

Don't forget to post pictures of your progress as you put the boat together.  We enjoy watching these boats come together and can offer assistance as you might need it.  Just ask and you'll get more than one answer.  There's a ton of experience here.
