Hey guys,

I have been slowly working on this boat and thought I would share a few pics of the progress. Thanks for the guidance thus far Dave! A few details of the build so far:

• CVG Doug Fir Framing

• Meranti Sides

• Fiberglass bottom (done the same way as my previous boat with a rounded bottom edge wrapped in glass then chine cap applied to restore hard chine edge - let the debates begin lol)

I think this boat will be painted... not sure yet.

Here are a few random pics I have taken along the way. More to come once the boat gets turned over and the interior work gets going.

Let me know what you think.

Jason,

Looking good.  I see you are configuring the interior with side pockets as the originals have.  You will love those.  I will make all my future boats this way.  Super functional and lots of storage. I'm already designing the second version of this boat built for three.

Boat is looking good.  Get busy, the salmon and steelhead are in the Muskegon and PM.

Thanks Dave!

I think the side pockets are really nice as well. It took me some head scratching to get them fit, but I think it was worth the time.

Headed to fish the PM later this week. Should be a few in there :-)

I was fishing the PM the past 3 days. Lots of fish. One was about 30#.

Working on getting the seats built...

Not sure if I want to make them both hinged seats with storage or not.

Do it. Never enough dry storage in the boat. I have one dry box and two bulkhead cabinets and I regularly fill them up. I'd make both those seats dryboxs if it were me. Where do u plan to put the cooler? Mabye it could fit under one of those seats and have a hinged seat lid to expose the opening, or Mabye u could throw it begin the rower on raised blocks with rig point so you are above the anchor rope and locked down. No river trip is complete without beer you know

Good looking work. Looks like she's almost ready for water!

Great Lakes IPA?  Good taste my brother. In boats and beer! good luck on the PM, I'm heading north as well for chrome.

Thanks Dave.

I haven't been out in a while, looking forward to it. I will let you know how we do.

Great to see another Z come to life.  Small cooler fits great under the seat.... attaching pics of mine.  Keep the pics coming.  Beautiful job.  Dave - keep us posted on the 3 seat version, I have a 10 year old nephew who has been doing some fishing, 3 seats would be perfect to get him and his dad on the water.  Thanks!

Ron,

Very nice work! I really like the two colors on your boat. Good choices. Nice joinery too.

Ron,

Check your email.  I have been bitten by the muskie bug....I've slimed up the Z pram with pike and muskie slime.  My buddy in Michigan wants a Z pram, so he gets the slimed one this spring.  Countdown begins on me to design the version 2 and get one in the water by April.  Still on the fence.  The Z pram is by far the best boat for my home waters, whether they be still or moving. (not that I'm biased).  But I have this sickness of always wanting to improve things.

Checked email and didn't see anything.  Will keep an eye on it.  First day of archery saturday but I think I may ditch that and float one of your favorite waters.

I cut the transom to accept a motor (an 8hp 2 stroke)

I have been experimenting using this kicker bracket to compensate for the negative angled transom (need to get to some flat water to see how it trims) The bracket allows adjustment up and down. I will need to do some reinforcing on the transom though. Open to suggestions on that...

Both of the sliding bench seats are hinged for storage underneath.

Here are a few pics.
