I think I got it.

So when I originally design the drift Pram, it was for two people, with the intent of fishing smaller, flatter water.  My things have changed.  I like the flat ender design so much for all of the pros and no cons that I can think of (for the intent of use), but now want a scaled up version for motoring around chasing after muskies, bigger, flatter water and more space.

I've racked up several models, not happy with any until today.  I was almost going to scrap the idea and just build a Rapid Robert.

Very similar design as the original with some rough specs.

Sheer Length: 14'

Side height: 21"

Bottom width: 48"

Beam: 66"

Next step: wood model.

OH BOY! Can't Wait! I really need some for the lower Snake and this just might do the trick!

Actually I should preface that better... the lower snake can be big water. I live on middle/western snake above Hells Canyon... there are only some class 1 and a very few class 2 rapids. It is mostly flat water, but it IS moving somewhat.

Looks real good... now, how about design a SIMPLE to build 14' drift boat. You should see the plans I got in the mail, a rocket scientist would cry like a baby if he had to build from these plans. smile

Riverman, have you perused Roger Fletcher's Drift Boats and River Dories yet.

Riverstouch.com is his web site. Perhaps that will give you some building ideas.

I think you're really on to something here.  I have a 14' Tatman that I love dearly, but something with a little less rocker, more useable interior room and a shallower draft would be mighty appealing on Midwestern rivers.  I'll watch this project closely.

Dave,
You are going to like this boat. Mine is 14'x54" and handles a motor or two fishermen very well. I call it the big water pram. Big enough to carry the groceries but nimble enough to wiggle down a very small stream.
Here's Kevin doing a much needed clean up after ten years of hard work and abuse.

Awesome Pram AJ!

AJ,

Of course you already know- but your big water pram plus the rapid robert are the inspiration behind the design of the original Z drift pram, right down to the seat rails.  The second version at 14' is my version of your big water design!  The rail system is the slickest way in my opinion to configure an interior.  so much extra storage for the little things and allows quick config of the seats.  When I fish solo, I take one seat out, move the other and have so much room to fish.

Thanks guys for the comments, you'll all be a part of this coming to life.

Riverman- curious to know which plans you are talking about.  perhaps one of us could help decipher for you.  PM if you like.

Dave

AJ, any more pic of your pram. looks good.

Dave, that will be a great pram when your done as always. looking forward to the build.
