Hi, I am hoping someone out there may be able to help us or at least point us in the right direction as to where or whom could help us find information on the boat we have just purchased.

We would love to know more info & history of her & the era in which she was built.

We got her as a 28 ft Kauri Bilge Keeler.

Length: 9 Metres (29.52 Feet)
Year: 1960

Carvel built. Converted to motor sailer in 80's by Brin Wilson. Re engined (34hp BMC diesel)2 yrs ago. A previous owner purchased motor from Moon Engines Ltd, not sure if it was as a reconditioned motor though.

Stainless steel rig. Rollerfurling jib, battened main. Plow anchor with heavy chain and warp, Elec anchor capstan.

Stainless steel fuel tanks (2x 100L.)80 L. fresh water tank.

Approx 2 tonne lead in bilge. Automatic bilge pump.

Draws about one metre.............a full length launch type central keel plus two bilge keels.

5-7 knots with combined motor and sail.

So far I have been able to also find out the following information......

- Her AYA or NZY number was/is 227

- Was in the 1970 registration lists as built by Reid.

- Advertised for sale in Sea Spray 2 years later (Sea Spray Nov 1972 - For Sale, 28ft Bilge Keeler, Launched Dec 1970).

- J & I.M Reid (Beach Haven) 1970/71? (Still registered as owner NZYF 1980)

- Aparently she was Designed & built by Jim Reid, son of Boatbuilder James Reid. He worked for Auckland Harbour Board & built Staunch Keel Yachts for himself at Hall's Beach. Other boats he built were 'Leisure Hour' - 1938 & 'Clear Skies' - 1946.

I have tried researching this information myself, but not having any luck finding her anywhere. I can't even find a picture of her.

I am starting to think that maybe she was renamed at some stage & was originally called 'Leisure Hour'.
