Does anyone know if Randy has planned a McKenzie Festival for the year.  My students are busy crafting away at two drift boats! (a Trapper and a Z's Drifter).  I don't think we'll have them ready for the festival if it's in April, but we might like to try and get down there to see it all.

Thanks,

Tom Anderson

Tom, I see no reason why there shouldn't be a festival on the last weekend of April, Friday night the 24th and BBQ and Saturday the 25th morning float just like we did when you came down. I'm certainly planning on being there at that time!

Where is this Festival? I may be in Idaho that weekend.

Rick . . . I was hoping so.  Hope to see you there.

Gregg . . . here's a link to the Dersham's website for the super fine lodge on the classic McKenzie River . . . it's a great experience if you can make it.

Rick . . . off the subject.  So last weekend I was shivering in the duck blind with my buddy, and he says . . . "holy cow Tom, I forgot to tell you a story:  My son and I were in the 'middle-of-nowhere' Idaho on a fishing trip last summer and never anticipated running into any people where we were at.  Then, there was this guy and we got to talking and he asked where I was from . . . so I told him 'a little town in Washington you probably haven't heard of called Glenwood . . . and they guy says . . . 'do you know Tom Anderson'?."   I knew it had to be you Rick.  Funny how small the world has gotten.  We may in fact be down to only 5 degrees of separation or so eh?

Gregg, you need to make it to the McKenzie River Wooden Boat Festival! It is a wonderful time, lots of drift boats, great people, good beer and food. Take a look at the pictures that I have been taking for years on my "page" here on Wodden Boat people. I missed last year because I was rowing down the Grand Canyon. It was a worthwhile tradeoff. I can introduce you to a bunch of folks, if your boat isn't ready I give you a ride in the annual "Boat Parade". I am very active in putting on the event and have attended for a number of years.

Friday night is a BBQ on the beach at Randy's Eagle Rock Bed and Breakfast. Saturday working we float the McKenzie River for a few miles and take out at Randy's place. We then pull our boats out of the water and join the other boats and boat builders whose boats are on display all over the lawn.

I can introduce you to a bunch of folks that I have made friends with over the years. There are tons of boats to look at and conversations to be had. Roger Fletcher is usually there, we can visit with him too.

From Spokane it takes me eight hours to drive to Vida, OR, which is 35 miles upstream from Eugene. I can provide all the details on the trip if you want.

Rick

I sent you a message about this quite a while ago, you must have not read it. Your friend whose name I have forgotten was a great guy. We had a good conversation. I was working as a cook in a hunting camp a few miles away. We were taking one of our hunting clients fishing cause he had shot his elk the day before on his first day of Elk hunting at 8 am.

I agree we are down to five degrees of seperation.

How about a few pictures and stories about the boat build? We would love to see what's going on.

Rick

My reservations were made a day or two ago.
I look forward to this event, my first. The mini- Mac 12 will be in tow.

not sure if this is where i rsvp, but i'll be there. Rick, thanks for the reminder about the festival! and maybe i should bring the libations, because not only will it be a triple header (me, Mackenzie Rivers in her Mckenzie River drift boat on the Mckenzie River, but the 25th is my birthday)...so is that technically a quadruple header? See you then.

I too am looking forward to seeing you and many more that weekend. I will be driving down from Spokane, WA about 8 hours away. I hope to be there on Thursday night so I can float on both Friday and Saturday. I probably won't leave the area until Monday and then head north to Tacoma. Let's stay in touch.

Rick N

Maybe a clarification is needed. Reservations are not needed to attend the festival. Reservations were made for Eagle Rock Lodge, so a comfortable rest is just a step away. It is a bit of a drive some Southern CA, so the easier to participate, the better.

I understand the Festival occurs on opening day for fishing. Does anyone stop the conversations, boat viewing and actually wet a fly line?

When I visited the McKenzie last November, I noticed these great McKenzie River Corridor maps at all the launch sites. I ordered one and it arrived with lots of detail on launch names and contact information. However, the opposite was blank - I am thinking the map should have printed on that side. I guess it will be straightened out in the next week.

Great map (though)!

Reservations made and looking forward to meeting other Wooden boat people.
