Started my build about a month ago. I'm building a 16ft Double ender with transom straight out of Fletchers book.  With this plans and instructions out of the book and the great information in this forum, how could you not be successful.  

Laid out the lines for the frames on an old piece of 3/4inch plywood and got started. I started making the frames out of 1 or better doug fir 2X4s at the local lumber yard.  It wasn't too hard working around all the knots to get good looking frames.  Just a little time consuming ripping them down to 1by and belt sanding, cus I don't have a planner. 

Building this has been a lot of fun and wanted to start sharing on this forum for future builders and the expert advice.  thanks

Well, winter means back to boat building.  I stay too busy during the summer to do any work on it.  But last week I got busy.

Started by fiberglassing the outside of the boat.  Bottom with 2 layers of 10 oz (20oz total) and 6 oz for the sides.  Finished off the bottom with graphite powder in the epoxy.  Turned out pretty well, except I had a little too much help with the fiberglassing and didn't supervise as well as i should.  Found some bubbles that didn't get worked out during wet out, so it made for a bit of sanding before paint.

After fiberglassing I flipped the boat over for the first time and got a good look at the inside.  I'm happy with it.  Started making the rower seat and making all the rail and handrails

Feel like I'm on the home stretch, and will hopefully be catching some stealhead real soon.

Still have to paint, make passenger seat, fly deck, install rails, and varnish

Maybe not as quick as i think, but things are happening

Cut down the rails to install the handrails.  Found an easy way to get the right angle and depth.

A buddy of mine just got done fabricating a CNC plasma cutting table, so we played around with some accent pieces for the boat. Not sure where to put them yet, but it was pretty awesome to cut them out so easy.

There is a lot of sanding involved in getting the boat fare before painting.  My arms tired, I know its not going to be perfect after the first hour of sanding.  Just told myself it's a boat and its going to get dings.  Definitely not a show piece at this point.

You are the only one who will notice 99.99% of the imperfections.  It is really coming along nicely!

Paint Turned out better than i thought.  2 coats of primer and 2 coats of topside paint.  I used the Total Boat WetEdge TopSide Paint (Oyster White) from Jamestown Distributers.  Made a little spray booth in my carport.  Was planning on spraying the last 2 coats but got my air hose in front of the heater and blew it.  So I rolled and tipped the first coat of pigment and it came out so well that I just finished it.  So much easier than cleaning a spray gun.

Few more pics of the progress.  Got it flipped and the outside chines and shear rails on.  Going to start varnishing soon.

I actually broke one of my DF handrails trying to install it.  Inside is DF 3/4 and outside is white oak (5/8). It broke starting at the bow at frame 9.  It was kind of cold outside at the time, so I heated up the wood before install the other and it went great.  Made another for the other side and installed it.  Luckily I had another 18 ft clear doug fir piece just in case.  Didn't have to scarf the handrails.  I did scarf the outside chines (white oak). 

Some of the hardware:

Debated on going with plastic or brass for the bushings in the oarlock holders.  Brass just looks better and a buddy happen to have some laying around.  So free is good.

Cut out some braces for the passenger seat hardware.  Liked the look of metal ones over plywood.  Guess it's not always an all wood boat.  Theres screws somewhere. ha.

Added the fish we cut out to the fly line deck face.

Its coming together, should be floating this stealhead season.  Can't wait to get this out on the water.
