I have a 16' boat and wondering if anyone could tell me if they recognize the design. I was told it was a Tatman but I don't know for sure. As I am getting farther into the project I'm starting to wonder if this is all a bad dream. Not knowing all the terms, there is rot across the bottom 3 inches of the plywood hull. I think I need to strip the paint on the hull to see what the wood looks like under? The supporting wood on the inside or frame seems to be solid with no detectable rot. I'm not really sure what to do next, any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated. I desperately want to simply repair the sides instead of getting myself into a situation where I need to replace the sides completely.
You need to discover how deep the wood is discolored or soft. Wood will have to be removed a fair distance from the defining edge. Any of the damage you have shown us can be repaired. The question is how much time, money and effort do you want to put in. Any piece of a wooden drift boat can be replaced or repaired. Use the search function at the top right of the page to look for "A J DeRosa scarf" where A J shows how to cut the plywood back and scarf in a new piece.
