Found a small, old longshaft motor. Its a British Seagull. The guy hasnt seen it run in a long time, it was a friends who passed away and he used to have sail boats. Its pretty clean and he wants $150.

Anyone know anything about these old motors?

What I`d really like to have is a somewhat newer 2.75 Merc LS with the tank in the top.

Mike, go to woodenboatforum.com and do a search for Seagull motors. There have quite a few discussions on these motors. Most of the comments were not favorable. My opinion is the Merc will quieter, cleaner to run and more repairable.

Ya, the price is right for me, but the guy said these motors are bad for smoking. I looked up the serial number online, its a 1976 2-3hp which is good, and parts can still be had. Its really light weight, but just feels like it would be a chance, and wasted money.

I know that you should not reach around the back and accidendly touch the spark plug wire while underway. You run the risk of being tossed from the boat, especially if your only 100 Lbs.
