Hey Guys,
This is for those of you who know the McKenzie...
I have a strange obsession with this river even though I know very little about it, first-hand. Mostly because of the boat. I named my daughter McKenzie Lane (after the river/county) 21 years ago. I have a little shrine of river stones and a tiny bottle of water from the McKenzie on my fly tying desk. Two years ago I finally was bale to buy a boat that was built by Keith Steele and spent its entire life on the McKenzie. So yes, I am kind of a weirdo.
Now I am trying to pick out a name for my boat. I'm thinking of following the Grand Canyon dory tradition of naming the boat after a rapid, canyon, etc. So... what are your favorite rapids or features of the McKenzie?
Thanks,
CW

Fish Ladder is the biggest. Marten, commonly called Martin's, is next. Brown's Hole also a good one. As far as features, Eagle Rock.
Cwarmouth, this is just my opinion, but I wouldn't name your boat Brown Hole
Indeed, Bennett. That seems like a bad idea.
Thanks, David. Please let me know if you have more ideas.
Clover is another one.
For what it's worth, the Grand Canyon Dories naming convention started by Martin Litton was to name boats after a place that had been destroyed/scarred by humans "so we'll think twice before doing it again."
Yes, I realize that. I guess I should have said that my idea is loosely based on the Grand canyon Dory naming tradition.
Martin Litton, “inaugurated a tradition of naming every craft after a natural wonder that, in his view, had heedlessly been destroyed by the hand of man—‘to remind us of places we’ve destroyed without any necessity,’ he would bark to anyone who inquired, ‘so that maybe we’ll think twice before we do it again.’" Here's a link to the article: https://www.oars.com/blog/dory-trips-history-how-does-a-boat-get-na...
Martin was a man with vision, he did a lot for the Grand Canyon.
