Baker 17x54 build

Well I'm building a 17 54 baker drift boat. So far I've got a pallet of expensive ply wood and one scarf cut

Hey y'all. I can't post pictures until tomorrow but I picked up some more lumber to make my inner gunwhales. Inwhales? And got my deck template fit. At least I think I do. Can someone tell me how snug the fly deck gets to the stem and sides? I've got about a 3/4 inch gap currently and think unless I notched the edges that sit in the cleats it won't get any closer. However the pictures I've seen of fly decks ready to install show straight lines on the sides. Times I need a boat to look at in person

Thanks David, slick hyperlink by the way.  I'm copying your battens under the fly deck idea and will glass it too for strength. But your sides are straight and not notched.  Do you have about a 3/4 inch gap up at the top of your deck?

Yep, there's a space at each of the three corners of the deck where there are no supporting cleats.

haven't updated this in a while

so heres what I've got

this took a few days of thinking to figure out..........turns out Im just an idiotgot my friends cooler as a test.  The top of that batten would be even with the seat rail so I figure with the cooler in the forward position with a seat mounted on top it will be an inch higher than the standard bench.  Moved back to the rear position it will be the same

Wasn't happy with the left over oak I had for my gunnel spacer things.  Sent a hail mary to Jay Strugnell here, and he came through big time! Thanks Jay!

So I started cutting bevels

I hate our miter saw here at work so I made do

sexy walnut

Just need to notch the left side gunnel spacer and bolt it on.  Then cut the right side and they're done

If you are debating buying a miter saw, just go out and get a height adjustable office chair

Bennett, I'm curious to see how your cooler seat works out. My concern when I considered this approach on my boat was how the seat would slide. Since the floor is on an angle the cooler would have to hang in the air. A 65 gallon Yeti/RTIC weigh 35 lbs empty. Add ice, water and beer and you'll be close to 100lbs. Add a 200 lbs person and that is also of weight on those ribs. Check out my cooler mount. It gives both the angler and rower so much more room to move around the boat.
