Necessity is the Mother of Invention or at least "adaptation". My "need" was to add to the comfort of my boat guests with a cup holder that has a low profile for easy access to a beverage,
has a cut-out for a coffee cup handle,
is ready to serve up a Ninkasi for Happy Hour,
is sturdy enough to hold a Micro Quart,
is flexible enough to hold a cigar if the need arises,
and is out-of-the-way enough so it doesn't interfere with casting a fly rod.
Took me a few months and a few prototypes - hope it adds to the wood experience in my boat this year.... Ha

Greg,
What a hoot.... You need them to be bigger for 16 ozers.....

Greg, as always, good work. Multi-purpose, useful and good looking, I'm sure that's what your wife says about you too! Do you have access to any big pieces of bamboo? Big enough to build something like this? Three more days of school. Time to find a job and build a boat! Looking forward to seeing you soon. I've never seen the Nikasa beverage. I'll have to find some for the trip. I like your pint jar with handle idea, especially the lid.
Your brother in waves,
Rick Newman
Thanks Rick,
My wife says a lot of things about me and my multi-purpose gadgets... ha ha. She thinks the varnish fumes have affected me. I DO have some bamboo contacts - how big a piece and what do you have in mind?? Maybe we can "chat" about it at the show next month. Good luck with school - that's a big accomplishment - well done brother!! Ninkasi is a local brew and they support ALL things outdoors - particularly if it relates to fly fishing and boat building. The quart jar is my vessel of choice - my local pub gives a big discount on "refills"... kinda like a "Big Gulp". ha

Greg, something big enough to do a similar job as to your new system. Yeah, let's talk then.
Rick
...hmmmm - let me work on that.
