Rear Seat for 16 Foot Tatman

I'm looking to add a rear seat in my boat but I'm unsure of the best option. I was thinking about adding a pedestal seat but I'm not sure how I would go about mounting it to the floor without having the screws go too far through the floor. Does anybody have any other ideas for rear seating options?

Unfortunately there isn't a picture of how the seat is connected to the base. I'll bet that Randy will provide an answer. I am considering adding a rear seat to my almost built Tatman boat.My plan is to replicate the connection system of building a thwart with two pieces of stock similar to those used for the oarsman and passenger seat. I could top it with either a copy of the oarsman rope seat or another design I am thinking about. Perhaps that would work for your boat.

I made a removable seat out of a used 2x8. It was quick and kinda ugly, but it works fine for when I fish someone from the rear. It may not show in the attached pictures, but it's drilled for folding swivel seat.

Wayne, here's my Tatman boat. I'm not quite done replacing the bottom and the flooring, but I'm getting close. I still need to finish the rowing seat and build a new front seat and fly line deck.

Anyway, it's also a 16' Tatman. This photo shows the seat that Greg Tatman included with my kit back in 1996. It may have been an option. It's not nearly as fancy as the one that Rick linked to, but it's always been fine for my 210+ lbs.

I also haven't re-installed the rear knee brace which goes across the second frame and pretty much mirrors the front one in style.

I believe the seat slats are made of 1/2" cedar screwed down to two 3/4 x 1 1/2" cross pieces of oak. And the oak cross pieces rest on, and are carriage-bolted to a cleat on each side that's attached through the hull with stainless flat head screws from the outside.

If you need more pictures or better measurements, just ask.

By the way, I may regret all that extra flooring, but I had the material, and figured I'd give it a go. And I'm keeping some of my old flooring in the back as a reminder to buy a boat cover, this time.

Rick, thanks. But good? I'm thinking functional will be more fitting.

Matter of fact, I've thought about dubbing her Patina. Then, I moved on to Phoenix. But Re-Emerger seems kind of clever, so I might stick with that.

So, will I trailer my boat from East Tennessee to Oregon for a beer?

What kind of beer?

Any kind you want! For that drive you could even have more than one! If you leave tomorrow you could be there next Saturday and then spend a month getting back home.
