Need help finding pulleys for anchor bracket . . .

Hello . . .


Finally got my first wood drift boat last week.  One thing I need to find is some replacement pulleys for the through-transom bracket.  Currently there are just bolts, which the previous owner said work okay, but obviously I'd prefer to find some pulleys.

Bo's said that the bracket is not theirs, and that all of their pulleys would likely be too big.  The width inside the bracket is 13/16", and the height (inside) is 1 13/16" so max. pulley size would probably be 3/4" wide by 1-3/4" dia.  The hole is currently for a 1/4" bolt/spindle.

Anyone have any ideas of sources?  Much appreciated.

I just answered this same question on the s and g forum a few hours ago. I built my own plywood anchor arm and used a $4 petal ultralegere pulley from the climbing/gear shop. It nylon, fits 1/2" rope well and seems solid. It's bright orange but I'm ok with that. Works well and cheap!

Just checked them out and it look like it would work.  I'm going to search Grainger and some sailing hardware suppliers to see what they have.

Seems like an easy fix.  You can get sheaves of different diameters and widths at any good hardware store, e.g. True Value, for under $5.00..

Hey Tom,

http://www.duckworksbbs.com/hardware/sheaves/index.htm has some sheaves. I think Jamestown distributors has some as well in there sailing dept. You can easily make your own as well out of U.H.M.W. Cut them out with a hole saw from material that is the needed thickness and shape the groove with a Microplane round rasp on a drill press. http://us.microplane.com/browseproducts/30011-Round--Large-Rasp-wit...

Thanks for all the great tips guys.  I checked through a lot of the options, and I think I found the winner . . . Ronstan Acetal Rope Pulley, 1-1/8" Dia. (for 1/2" rope) with 5/16" center hole.  I'm going to order two of them up from Grainger (available from a lot of different sailing hardware suppliers) for $3.92 each.

Might have to go that route when I finally get to building my Mighty Mac.

He's quite a craftsman. If you ever visit the Spey Pages web site, look for the flies he ties in the feathers and flies section. Glad you liked his set-up.
