I am making a one man boat. I am using design aspects from a lot of different styles and contours. My question is, How do you determine where the oar locks to be, and how does that relate to the seat location?

Chistian,

Rule of thumb is usally about 14-16 inches from the front edge of your seat. Taking a flat and straight board lay it across the gunnels in front of the seat. Measure from the front edge of the seat to the edge of the board at an angle. You can use c-clamps to hold the locks to test and see if its right for you. You can view Jim Michalaks boat design to assist you in this process. Hope this helps...

Christian, I just did a search here on the site using the term "oarlocks". I found ten pages full of results, some of which will certainly discuss oar lock location as it is a popular question. If you haven't found the search bar yet it is at the top right of the page. Take a look through the results and see if your question is answered. if not let us know. Someone will be able to help.
