Spotting

So I was just wondering how you guys usually spot your vehicle... ever ride bikes? always bring 2 cars along? Pay a spotter to move your ride?

I was thinking it would be cool to use a bike or maybe a small moped to spot ourselves... most of the time we only have our 1 car. Some of the landings are far apart though... not sure if it is worth it after a long day on the water...

Thoughts?

Karl - my brother... that "age" shot was cold. You're killin me. For the record... I'm not going quietly or peacefully into the night!! (But yes, I remember those moon shots AND the Kennedy thing... thanks AGAIN for reminding me).
The Bike in the Boat trick is hard on the boat and takes up a lot of room - I started chaining it in both places because it gets in the way on a float & there is no way to get it in and out of the boat without dinging and scratching and denting the wood (don't care a wit about the bike getting dinged up). I do have a big ol rug that I throw in the transom area so the boat doesn't get busted up too bad.
Some guys use a "folding" bike - but I haven't invested in one.
Gotta go... time for my "pills" and an early dinner..... "Not".

I'm familiar with the term "spotting," but we generally talk about shuttles here in the Land of Cheese. Last summer at the height of ridiculous gasoline prices, I paid an exorbitant sum for an ancient Honda 2 stroke scooter with the idea of creating a mount for it on the front of my truck. That hasn't happened yet - the scooter needs work and the one guy I know who can resurrect it blew up his shoulder and is on the bench for the time being. So, I primarily rely on commercial shuttle services on the Upper Mississippi and the St. Croix. We have used two cars, too, but after a long day on the water, I like having someone to keep me awake on the way home.

Spotting is something your girlfriend or wife does once you knock them up I beleive. Shuttle is the better term, but then again I am a westcoaster.

When we go to MI, we:

say it like: "ooh ya, up der in dah U.P we leave da truck der at da take-out."

We are fortunate to have a trail system along alot of our rivers here in PA. I take a beater bike (1980 Raleigh converted to fixed gear) and throw it in the boat. Its an easy, flat bike ride, and hell, I need the exercise!

There's a bike shop in Billings MT that sells extra-stout fold-up bicycles,
that can be equipped with a one cylinder gas piston engine, that drives
a rubber cylinder, that can be levered down onto the rear wheel, so
you can go up to 25mph.

Haven't bought one yet. It's about $700 bucks for the complete rig.
At 25mph you could do a long float without trouble.

The real advantage, it seems to me, is not having to decide in advance
where you want to take out.
