Mini Drift Boat

 

Dreaming out loud here... 

 

I'm scared of flipping canoe's and way too old for a kayak. I don't want a pram, nor any boat that's around 8-10' long either.

 

Thinking about a ONE MAN ONLY drift boat... 14' long with a 42" bottom so it will fit in the back of my small truck with a hitch extender.

 

Will it work on very mild class-I rivers?

 

Any ideas...  (I have the plans in my head).  smile

Rogers book.  13' double ender.  Nicest lines of any boat and will handle whitewater well too. 

although any 14' with a 42" bottom is gonna be on the heavy side for one man to lift into your truck bed.

you might be tougher than me though.

I was going to convert a harbor freight trailer for the IRH. She will also fit into a truck.

After a long day of rowing and fishing, you will be happy to load the boat on a small trailer vs. wrestling it into a truck bed. Especially if you are floating solo.

Hello Mark.  I just read through the linked info on your IRH.  Cool  boat!  I've been scheming up such a boat for exploration/fishing on the upper reaches of our local river.  I've been tempted to get a 10' Skookum Steelheader type cataraft, but hate being on the beautiful river in bright-colored rubber things.  This stretch of river includes Class III stuff with lots of tight sections and big big boulders.  Would you mind sharing your basic dimensions and info with me somehow or other? 

Perhaps on another new thread so as to not hi-jack this one too bad?

I know a Father and son who built small dories a few year back.  One was about 12 foot and the other about 10 or 11.  They ran  West Water with them and did just fine.
